This selection of three excellent wines will give you a good introduction to the Tempranillo grape. Solarce Tinto shows Tempranillo as part of a blend, Solarce Rosado shows how it can produce wonderful rosé wines, and Laventura gives us Tempranillo in its pure state.
Solarce Tinto
- Producer: Casa La Rad
- Region: DOCa Rioja
- Vintage: 2019
- ABV: 14%
- Grape: Mazuelo | Garnacha | Graciano | Tempranillo
We start with Solarce Tinto. Intense cherry red in colour Solarce Tinto is highly aromatic on the nose with caramel, blackcurrant, cherry, violets and resinous notes. In the mouth, this is a broad and powerful wine with good structure and well-balanced tannins. It's a great example of how a Tempranillo can combine well with other grapes to produce a broad range of wine styles.
Solarce Rosado
- Producer: Casa La Rad
- Region: DOCa Rioja
- Vintage: 2020
- ABV: 14%
- Grape: Tempranillo | Garnacha | Mazuelo | Graciano
Here we have Tempranillo leading its personality to a wonderful rosé wine. Somewhere between pale strawberry and salmon-pink in colour, Solarce Rosado is a wine with strong aromas from the four different grape varieties. The Tempranillo gives prominent notes of strawberry and raspberry, combined here with white blossom and stone fruit. Long and persistent on the palate, with a delicate acidity that makes it a delightfully fresh wine.
Laventura Tempranillo
- Producer: MacRobert & Canals
- Region: DOCa Rioja (Alavesa)
- Vintage: 2018
- Grape: Tempranillo
-
ABV: 13.5%
Finally, we have Laventura - Tempranillo in its pure state. Medium garnet red in colour, with primary fruit aromas of raspberries, redcurrant, red cherries, blackberries and plums, the wine has secondary aromas of oak, brioche and a touch of vanilla from lees contact and the subtle use of wooden barrels. It has good tannin and perfectly balanced acidity which helps give the wine body and good length. A wine with good ageing potential, but perfect to open and drink right now. Production of the 2018 vintage was limited to 7,217 bottles.
