Starter Pack - Reds
Starter Pack - Reds
This starter pack is a great introduction to the world of Spanish reds. Covering the northern regions of Bierzo in the west, Rioja in the centre, and Montsant in the east, these three wines will give you a real sense of what the different regions have to offer.
And you'll also get to sample some excellent grapes. You have a 100% Garnacha, typical of Montsant, a single variety Mencía - an increasingly sought-after grape from the Bierzo region - and a blend from Rioja which will start to introduce you to lesser-known varieties like Graciano and Carignan. Enjoy!
I Tant Garnatxa Negra
With strong aromas of red fruit with balsamic notes, aniseed and fennel, this delicious red is like a Mediterranean wood captured in a bottle. Add to that the intense red fruit flavours and soft tannins and you've got a wonderful wine with an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity.
Casar de Burbia Mencía
Casar de Burbia Mencía 2017 is a 100% old-vine Mencía from a selection of different vineyard plots and aged in used French oak barrels for 10-12 months depending on the vintage.
This excellent wine is clean and brilliant purple in colour with aromas of raspberries and cherries, and a touch of caramel from the wood. It's full in the mount but has good acidity to keep it balanced which will help it age further in the bottle for a few years.
- Producer: Casa La Rad
- DO: Rioja
- Vintage: 2019
- ABV: 14%
- Grape: Mazuelo | Garnacha | Graciano | Tempranillo
This is not your average Rioja wine. The traditional Tempranillo is just one of a blend of grapes that goes into making a red wine that is full of character.
This blend of grapes ensures there's a lot going on in the wine. You'll get a combination of caramel, blackcurrant, cherry, and violet aromas, and a flavour that really fills the mouth. It's great with red meats but also works a treat with rice dishes and pasta.
